MATCH PREVIEW: Hull City VS Wigan Athletic

The possible title-clincher.

Hull City host Wigan Athletic at the KCOM Stadium tomorrow afternoon, knowing three points could see them clinch the Sky Bet League One title should Peterborough drop points at home to Lincoln City.

However, it is also a game between the two most in form sides in the division, with Wigan currently playing at a standard that doesn’t reflect their league position as they sit 20th, four points outside the relegation zone , meaning a win would secure their Sky Bet League One status.

Many City fans would love to see the title be won in this game, especially after the humiliation suffered in the away fixture at Wigan just nine months ago, where The Latics dished out a joint record worst defeat in The Tigers’ 117 year history.

The negativity surrounding that disastrous night in the North-West has definitely been quashed this season, especially after the joyous scenes at Sincil Bank last weekend.

The reverse fixture in February saw The Tigers win 5-0, including a first career hat-trick for Mallik Wilks, plus a goal each for Josh Magennis and Keane Lewis-Potter. This game will be a different complexion altogether, with Wigan coming to East Yorkshire with four wins in their last five games, including a 2-1 victory at home to Sunderland on April 13th.

One of the key men in the Latics’ recent resurgence has been former City striker Will Keane, who’s time at the club was filled with misfortune , but those who were there will remember his only goal in a 5-0 thrashing of Burton Albion in April 2018. Keane comes into this game with 4 goals in his last five matches, which has taken his tally to 10 for the season.

Wigan also come into this match winning their previous two away matches, with a 4-1 success at Doncaster and a 2-1 win at Shrewsbury Town. In fact, The Latics have picked up 6 more points on the road this season than on their home turf, so The Tigers will have to guard against any potential complacency.

Manager Grant McCann has expressed during the week that he wants The Tigers to play with “Swagger, Confidence & Freedom” as the Title is within touching distance. It would cap off an extraordinary week which has also seen the Northern-Irishman win Manager of the Season, as well as Callum Elder and George Honeyman making the Team of the Season.

Score Prediction: Hull City 3-1 Wigan Athletic
