Lived The Dream….

Four days later, and, unsurprisingly, it still hasn’t sunk in that Hull City AFC are back in the Premier League.

The most remarkable of seasons that had the most ‘Hull City’ ending after 46 games, and that managed to be outdone 21 days later.

Last April and May, I was fortunate to have worked at Wembley twice for the EFL Trophy and League Two play-off finals. Living in the West Midlands, it meant a fair bit as they involved Birmingham City and Walsall.

But, nothing, and I mean, NOTHING, in my life compared to Saturday afternoon, and having the privilege of working on just the fifth Wembley visit – and fourth win, for that matter – in City’s history made it feel, and it still feels like, utopia. in fact, as the title of this piece says, I have ‘Lived The Dream’.

I posted on X on Wednesday morning that, as well as the obvious instances of Oli McBurnie’s swipe past Sol Brynn and the full-time whistle, I was particularly choked up when the first line of Fatboy Slim’s ‘Praise You’ came on the PA system, because this club has come such a long way in six years, never mind the entire decade without a North London visit prior to Saturday.

After the privilege of reporting on City for the majority of the last 17 months, especially this season under Sergej Jakirovic, it was just as great to watch the bus parade outside St Stephen’s and then the civic reception at City Hall as a supporter – especially with my Dad, who will have been going to watch the club for 50 seasons by the time the top-flight season gets underway, as well as the play-off final being his 800th game.

Another emotional moment was Lewie Coyle’s final words with Steve Jordan before McBurnie, SJ and Acun went on to take centre stage themselves, and rightly so, but they echoed exactly what being a football fan, as well as a humble being, is all about.

Anyways, below are some shots from Monday’s homecoming.
